Community rules
Showmates · effective October 16, 2026 · updated October 17, 2026
Showmates is for tracking shows, anime and movies and talking about them with friends. Comments, lists, reviews, pact notes and profiles are seen by other people, so these rules apply on top of the Terms of Use.
The rules
- Respect. Criticize shows, not people. Insults, threats, harassment, discrimination, hate speech, spam and advertising are not allowed.
- Spoilers. If you reveal what happens, mark your comment as a spoiler. Comments on an episode are only visible to people who have watched it.
- Forbidden content. Sexually explicit content, graphic violence, self-harm, illegal activities, other people's personal data, piracy links and impersonation.
- Age. You must be at least 16 to sign up.
Child safety: zero tolerance
Showmates prohibits any content or behavior that sexually exploits, abuses or endangers children. This includes child sexual abuse material (CSAM), grooming, the sexualization of minors and sextortion.
- Reported content is reviewed as a priority and removed as soon as it is confirmed.
- The accounts involved are permanently suspended.
- Where the law requires it, we report cases to the competent authorities and to the relevant national and international organizations (for example NCMEC).
How to report
- In the app: every profile, comment and list has Report. Choose the reason (including Child safety). The reported person won't know who reported them, and you can also block them.
- By email: support@showmates.app.
- If a child is in immediate danger, call your local emergency number or the police.
Reporting illegal content
Anyone, even without the app or an account, can report content on Showmates that they believe is illegal (for example defamation, threats, copyright infringement, personal data posted without consent). This is also our point of contact for users and authorities under the EU Digital Services Act (Articles 11, 12 and 16).
Write to support@showmates.app with the subject "Illegal content", in English or Italian, including:
- where the content is: the author's username and the show, movie, episode or list where it appears (or the link, if you have it);
- why you believe it is illegal, precisely enough for us to assess it;
- your name and email address (not needed for reports of child sexual abuse);
- a sentence stating that you believe, in good faith, that the information in your report is accurate and complete.
We confirm that we received your report, normally review it within 24 hours and tell you what we decided and why. If you're in the app you can also use Report on the content. Manifestly unfounded reports sent repeatedly may not be processed.
Consequences
Content that breaks the rules is removed. In serious or repeated cases the account is suspended. Anyone who receives a decision can ask us to review it within 6 months, as explained in the Terms of Use (section 5).
